It's 50/50 which comes up higher on any given throw. Over a number of throws, it's 50/50 which totals higher. D12 + D6 is more likely to hit a maximum, and more likely to hit a minimum.

BL go "Two things" First, in AG&G, you roll all your dice and take the highest. Second, looking at averages is not the best way to do statistical analysis in most cases.

And
For a quick look at which is likely to roll higher, the simplest way is to look at averages. you have to get pretty complex before you need more sophisticated analysis tools, I think.
