Does it matter if things are a cue or not? I mean, what matters is that there are procedures that we have that are abstract and apply to a category of narrative control.
"Bobnar takes the higher ground" is equivalent to "I take the higher ground (though I am real Bob rather than fictional Bobnar, so it's really Bobnar.)" That's a stylistic thing.
