The design principle coming out of that advice was that you have several sets of numbers, but the way you use them is different for the different things you do. Like, you have numbers between, say, 2 and 5, and 5 is great and 2 is bad, but you do different stuff with them.

Furthermore, they can link into each other. You do something that inflicts harm on someone else? That person can take the hit and might wind up fighting back, which initiates a different system.
