I keep hearing about this game-design as social status thing.  Who is doing this?  Why am I so blind to it?

Am *I* doing it?

I have a crap ton of "Alpha" games on my website.  You know why they're not done?  Two reasons.

1) I lack the social courage/leadership skills to organize a consistent period of play-testing.

2) I lack the discipline to do all the work that isn't the design part (like writing, layout, art co-ordination, etc).

I own those failures.  I hope to get over them some day.  But I make no excuses (beyond owning up to my failures).

So why are they there at all?  Because I needed to communicate the ideas in them in SOME way.  I'm not looking for status or attention.  I *might* be looking to see if the ideas call to someone else but that's a quest for like minded creative companionship.

Who are these status seekers?

And Joshua A.C. Newman became a "bad guy"?  Did I miss a memo?  I thought I kept on top of Story Games/Forge culture but I keep reading posts like this and thinking I must be a blind man in a dark cave.
