Very insightful thoughts, Ben. I come late, so it took some time to read most of it, and yet I had no chance to read all of the participants' contributions. But I see many solid points being made.

I find these thoughts useful, and very, very badly expressed. Which makes them comfusing in some points.
A first reading feels like you're addressing all people engaged in designing games. The metaphor of the power drill is in my opinion misleading, and you seem like you're addressing the emotional side of readers rather than the rational side, while your point is part of rational, practical and reasonable game designing processes vs. an unhealthy tendency of only a part of the so called game designers (I loathe labeling people who create games. It's as if they were different because of that: being a game designer doesn't make you any better, more important, or different than anyone else).

I've read Nathan Paoletta's post. I find it more useful, clear and to the point in addressing the same matter. It also confirms my firm opinion that you don't need slapping people's faces to get their attention.
That is a major one, speaking of bad tendencies.
I've seen it too often for my tastes. It always makes me sad, especially when it comes from accomplished game designers.
