Card games (I include Mah Jong in that designation becuase it's essentially a card game played with really thick cards) are pretty safe, but only in traditonal forms: trick-taking, meld-forming, or hand constructing—and only with abstract cards.
Hell, even Chess, one of the older board games still actively played, is only accepted as an adult game for nerds and brainiacs.
