How about, you know, GMing?

I mean, GMing in a functional situation is both 1) fun and 2) not protagonized.

This makes VAX go "Right!"
In the "traditional" model of GM/Player interaction, that's where the supporting characters live. That's why I proposed a game where all of the participants were GM's.

This makes BL go "But that isn't really the only solution"
A game where everyone is the GM in a traditional sense is pretty silly. Rather, let's look at what makes GMing fun and see if we can't give that to everyone.

Not even half of everyone. And by "everyone" I mean "Gamers." And, whats more, for a lot of GMs I think you do find "protagonization" -- Marry Sue ahoy. There can even be non-problematic GM protagonization in more "shared space" games with functional social contracts, so I think the walls on that one are thinner than we like to think.

This makes BR go "Addenda to the above"
Interestingly Egri lists Romeo and Juliet's PARENTS as the protagonists -- and they are sure as shooting GM territory. The line between protagonist and antagonist is pretty thin.
