Isn't it interesting that when we set up the binary of man -- man|boy, man|beast, man|coward -- that the historical value judgement has always been in favor of the man side? So when we say man|woman ....

I think if we're putting it in context, the less problematic issue is that Vincent is talking about boy to man in the sense of adulthood, identity, and self confidence. In a better world, we'd also attribute the same thinking to girl/woman, and, though many stories deal with this kind of "coming of age" ideas, rarely do they deal with full empowerment of women, or societal change.

Though, for the record, some of the women I play with do that. It just doesn't get a lot of support from anything other than their own skill at telling that story.
