It's 50/50 which comes up higher on any given throw.  Over a number of throws, it's 50/50 which totals higher.  D12 + D6 is more likely to hit a maximum, and more likely to hit a minimum.

First, in AG&G, you roll all your dice and take the highest. Second, looking at averages is not the best way to do statistical analysis in most cases.

Ah, Okay. Sorry about that And For a quick look at which is likely to roll higher, the simplest way is to look at averages. you have to get pretty complex before you need more sophisticated analysis tools, I think.
