Brand, I think you and my dad would've gotten along. He didn't get along with many Mormons.
We moved from Provo Utah to Canandaigua NY, just 20 miles or so from Palmyra. I've never seen the church function outside its hard core - the Palmyra area is pretty much as hardcore as Provo is.
I have to ask you, though. The fact that you have to get away from a religion's heart to see it at its best, doesn't that tell you something about the heart of the religion?
