Jarhead is a good movie, too.

This makes SF go "Overload!"
Manuals explain the details to people already immersed in the unstated essence of military culture; if you don't get your unstateds elsewhere, the manuals will just drown you. I've covered the military as a journalist for most of the last 8 years and have never had call to read a field manual.

Read it.

Man I love that book.

This makes Matt S go "Thin Red Line"
Not sure if this is the right place to suggest a movie, but ... the recent Thin Red Line. Apparently, I remain the only guy on the planet who adores this movie, but I think it has bits relevant to Red Sky A.M. as I understand the concept.

This makes VB go "I non-adore Thin Red Line."
But yes, relevant for sure. I found it sledgehammery - I guess I prefer my anti-war movies to be Full Metal Jacket.

This makes VB go "It beat the pants off Saving Private Ryan, though."
That's for certain.

This makes MS go "Tigerland"
Fair 'nuff. Like I said, only guy. ... OOH! FMJ mention Just reminded me of another bootcamp flick -- Tigerland. Decent, not great.
