The mecha have absolutely no impact on their society. In fact, there seems to be almost no civil society at all. What little there is doesn't seem concerned with actually gaining or keeping resources; it's all about fighting for its own sake.
In short, it's violence fantasy.
Their weapons are primitive by modern standards, and even so, the mecha are poor weapons; tanks are cheaper and can disproportionately take out mecha.
